"The Indian Sub-continent" is intended for use as a text for the study of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh in modern times. Modern world history courses at GCSE level have a significant South Asian element and the text has been written with this in mind. It should also serve as an introduction to the recent history of the area for students of other ages and levels. A brief introduction is followed by a short account of the Mughal Empire and full use is made of contemporary quotations. Coverage include the effects of World War I and II, the influence of Mahatma Gandhi, the partition of India in 1947 and the development of the independent successor states of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
