Negotiating Tragedy. Law and Disasters

An analysis of the legal responses to disasters. It brings together the traditional responses of personal injury and other civil litigation, along with developments in criminal litigation, especially in corporate criminal liability. The role of disaster charities and voluntary organizations which often play a significant role in obtaining legal redress for victims are also examined. Recent disasters such as Zeebrugge, Hillsborough, The Marchioness and Kings Cross have challenged different aspects of the legal system, ranging from corporate manslaughter charges to civil actions for post traumatic shock disorder.
