Love & Death in Kathmandu

Investigative account of the 2001 murders and attempted suicide of heir to the Nepalese throne, Crown Prince Dipendra. Armed with four guns the prince opened fire on his family and then shot himself. While lying in a coma, Dipendra was declared king. Account is based on interviews with a range of people including Maoist guerrillas and members and friends of the royal family. Looks at the love affair between Dipendra and aristocrat Devyani Rana, the royal family's opposition to Rana, and the clash of old and new cultures. Includes colour photos and bibliography. Authors have previously written 'The Road to Mount Buggery' and are winners of the 2002 Asia-Pacific Travel Writing Award. Whittaker is co-author of 'Sins of the Brother: the Definitive Story of Ivan Milat and the Backpacker Murders'.
