Rashid Rana - Translation/Transliteration

Rashid Rana is widely considered to be one of the most prominent and original contemporary artists working in South Asia today, and this exhibition will encapsulate four distinct narratives, consisting of selected works from 2004 to mosaics, ‘An idea of abstract brings together many of Rashid's works that highlight his interest in using abstraction as a theme rather than an act. The shape of the form features photo sculptures and the Translation/transliteration series reveals his new work. Rana's art investigate the theme of perception and it lays bare the concept of paradox, multi dimensionality and duality. Contradiction, disorientation, nostalgia and ambition all come into play in his work, where a smaller and a larger image vie for attention. His photo sculptures, large scale photo mosaics and installations twist our nations of scale and structure and urge us to look deeper into the relationship between the fragment and the bigger picture. often the same interaction as large scale Renaissance paintings or abstract Expressionist works by Pollock or Rothko do.
