Description

Children's sexual thinking: A comparative study of children aged 5 to 15 years in Australia, North America, Britain, and Sweden. This research report focusses on the development of childrens' 'sexual thinking', a term which refers to the .child's understanding of familial relations, of boy/girl identity and preferences, of sex roles, sex role stereotyping and of sexual relationships. Drawing on Piagetian and Freudian perspectives the research seeks to answer three main questions, (i) What levels of thinking do children reveal in trying to understand physical development? (ii) At what ages do different levels (or stages) of thinking become evident? and (iii) What comparisons can be made between the thinking of girls and boys, differing age groups, differing social classes, differing ability groups and differing cultures? Specific predictions about the findings are not made in advance.
