Description
Glass Children and Other Essays -The tenth anniversary of the launching of the first satellite, the social unrest of the '60s, and the return to life of microorganisms after millions of years of dormancy are among the many events that have stirred the imagination of the author as he wrote these essays. What makes these essays of interest particularly to Westerners is an approach that is fresh in its insights. Those who lack a knowledge of Buddhist philosophy are inclined to think of it as something misty and mythical, belonging to the remote past, but nothing could be further from the truth. The complex and ever-changing world of the present often leaves the individual perplexed, paralyzed in both thought and action. The author offers no panaceas, but in his characteristically straightforward style he does encourage the reader to a deeper understanding of the life force inherent in the universe and urges him to be concerned about such matters as sound educa- tion, good government, the uniqueness of the individual, and human relationships devoid of sham and hypocrisy. The approach to life presented here is by no means vague theorizing. The author became an adult amid the wreckage of war.
