Description
Based on the theory that organisational context is best understood by examining the external environment first, this introduction to the subject provides the student with a holistic learning experience, combining taught and self-managed elements. The methodological approach integrates fully the acquisition of knowledge with the development of practical, transferable skills. To this end, the book starts with an introduction explaining the layout, rationale and anticipated learning outcomes for students and staff using the book. The first two chapters concentrate on analysing the external environment and the transactional dependencies between each organisation and its own particular environment. The next chapters look at elements of the internal environment, organisational behaviour and the functions common to all organisations, always making the link to the external environment with case studies and questions. The book ends by commenting on the implications of change in the external environment for the future development of organisations and the sectors in which they operate. This text is designed for undergraduate students taking a first course in organisation or business studies.
