Description
Europe: The Story of the Last Five Centuries. The present volume is mainly a reprint of the Third Part of "A History of Europe," first published in 1924. The bombardment of London during the Second World War destroyed a large part of the stock of the whole book as well as all the different parts. The Third Part is now published as a separate work. A certain amount of new matter has been added. First an introductory chapter has been written with the object of giving the student an idea of the great states and the chief forces, spiritual and material, upon which the life of the following centuries depended. Next, the narrative after the end of the First World War has been rewritten. Some features of the settlement of Europe have been added. Although designed to be a history of Europe and not the world itself, the author felt other nations influence the historical and future life of Europe. Whatever Europe's destiny may be, its development, political, cultural, and religious, is the enthralling story given voice by A.J. Grant in this volume.
